The retirement of Brett Favre is becoming an annual rite of the NFL preseason, and this year is no different. A few months after retiring from football after playing last season with the New York Jets, The Gunslinger is back in the NFL and will play for the Minnesota Vikings.

Favre made his announcement at a Tuesday press conference:

“I felt I did everything I possibly could do to get where I need to be. You’re 39, your arm may not feel like it did at 21. But the pieces are in place that you don’t have to do that much and I agree with that. If they were willing to take that chance, I was, too. I don’t know how I’ll feel a year from now, five years from now, but I didn’t want to say what if.

The Vikings will pay Favre $12 million this season and $13 million next season. If he makes the opening day roster in either year, he gets the full amount of the contract though the payments themselves will be deferred. If his level of play isn’t up to par, or should he get injured in training camp the Vikings are still on the hook for $6 million.

Favres mother was even asked for her comment by the Biloxi, MS newspaper. Bonita Favre gave her thoughts on the matter:

“I have mixed emotions, but I have always loved to watch him play. This time, however, I thought he would stay retired and stay home. I guess he could not do it. They Minnesota seem to have a good team in place, and he liked that. I guess I need to get a Vikings jersey now.”

Favre initially decided to not return to the NFL due to a torn rotator cuff but after consulting with noted sports physician James Andrews, he had a change of heart:

“I just kept thinking I didn’t want to go through what I did last year. Between three weeks ago and the phone conversation yesterday [with Vikings coach Brad Childress], I talked to Dr. [James] Andrews and he assured me it wouldn’t be an issue. I felt if everyone was going to take that chance, I was to. As friends and family has told me, you never know until you take the chance,”

Favre said that he’s optimistic that the Vikings can make a deep run in the NFL playoffs:

“I felt from my standpoint that I could offer some experience and leadership, and I have to admit through this whole process after I said no three weeks ago, sometimes I was OK with it, and other times I said. I can really help this team.”

Favre will wear his iconic #4, thanks to Vikings fourth string QB Josh David Booty who graciously gave up the number. Booty will wear #9. Less happy with Favres signing were Viking QBs Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson who were competing for the starting job and will now be relegated to backup status.

Are you a Virginia Tech fan? Do you follow the Governor’s Commonwealth Cup faithfully every year? If you love the Hokies, then you might be interested in purchasing Virginia Tech personal checks.

Virginia Tech was established in 1872 and today is well known for its academic programs in agriculture, engineering, science, architecture, and business. It is noteworthy for being one of the few public universities to have a corps of cadets and it was also the first school in the United States to open its corps to women.

The sports teams at Virginia Tech are called the Hokies, but there is no definite meaning behind the word. The Hokie Bird, a creature that resembles a turkey, is their mascot. It’s a deviation from their first mascot, a turkey named the Fighting Gobbler. The school’s athletic teams play in the NCAA’s Division I in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Two of Virginia Tech’s biggest rivals are the University of Virginia and the Virginia Military Institute. The University of Virginia and Virginia Tech both compete in football for the Governor’s “Commonwealth Cup” every season.

The football team plays their home games at Lane Stadium, a stadium small in comparison to other Division I teams, but still loud. It is also ranked as having the best home field advantage in college football. Currently, the Hokies have the 4th longest bowl streak in the country. They have also finished with a top-10 ranking 5 times and have won 6 conferences.

The fight song for Virginia Tech is the “Tech Triumph.” It was written in 1919 and grew in popularity, not just as a fight song but as a dance song, too. It still continues to be heard today.

There are two series of Virginia Tech checks to pick from. One classy option is the Virginia Tech logo checks. These include the school’s official colors, a picture of their mascot, and their team name. Additionally, you can also buy complementing address labels, a debit wallet, and a matching checkbook cover to go with them as well.

If you’re looking for something a little more humorous then you might be interested in the Virginia Tech Number One Fan check series. These are for those true fans that aren’t afraid to throw their remote and rant to the television crews. You can also find matching accessories to go with these checks as well.

If you would like to buy Virginia Tech checks then you should know that purchasing them online can save you time as well as money. While it could be an annoyance to go to your local bank and go through their narrow supply in the past, now you can buy your checks from a reputable site like and save as much as 50% off the price of your checks. In addition, you can do it from your house! You can usually expect to receive your checks in around 5 days or so, which might even be faster than you got them before.

Before you purchase Virginia Tech checks, go to VirginiaTechChecks.com to get coupons and to save 50% off your next purchase of Virginia Tech personal checks.

Sports Betting And Its Myths

It has come to my attention, that there are loads of sports gambling legends round the web now days! Everyone seems to be just blurting stuff out, without even seeing if his / her information is legit.

Truth : utterly wrong! It’s a common myth that all sports bettors are gamblers and they loose. By pro I mean, they depend on statistical and fundamental factors, and bet exactly according to their system.

There is no guessing! There are no feelings concerned, no feelings, no regrets! Nada! Nothing! Pro Sports Bettors have learned to trust the mechanical system and leave the feelings and feelings at the door. This makes them matching to the modern Foreign exchange and Stock Brokers! Just like they can forecast the unpredictable market, the sports bettor can forecast the unpredictable game! My private opinion is that it’s even better to foretell a game than the market.

Myth : You can make lots of money from nothing in Sports Betting!

Can you see the picture?

It takes money to make money. It is important that your risk % is something insignificantly tiny. Begin with $100 and join the other 95% of the loosing bettors! Do not believe me? Be at liberty to try!

Myth : You have to be right the majority of the time to make a profit! Masses of Internet services making a claim to be 80%-100% correct with their picks!

Truth : Let me answer the second part first! Such high %s are pure crap and you have to scratch them off immediately! Is it possible? Yes for a weekend or a month, but in the longer term, no freaking way you can reach such a high rate! With such a high rate you would not even be selling picks, you would just bet hot on your own!

What p.c. Would you like to have to be correct to smash even? Right around 33.3% and you would break even.

Hopefully, now you would get a much clear picture, what sports gambling is all about! It takes patience, information, self-discipline and common logic to succeed! All these virtues are vital, they separate the winners from the losers.

Choosing Great Super Bowl Food

The Superbowl is just around the corner. What will you serve to the hordes of rabid fans that will be gathering at your house? One of the best things you can do is keep it simple. No one is going to be interested in a sit down meal during the game. They all want something they can grab between plays and nosh.

Set up a buffet near the viewing area so everyone can get easy access to the food. If you want to serve hot food since the weather is cold, put some crock pots to use. Crock pots can be used to make chili, pulled pork for sandwiches or stew. Swedish meatballs can be picked out of a crock pot with toothpicks or skewers. Other hot dishes could include a big pan of lasagna or a big pot of spaghetti. These foods can be put together ahead of time and cooked at the last minute. Set them out on the buffet and let your guests serve themselves. Buffalo wings are always a hit and they are a breeze to make.

Everyone loves chips and dip. You can also place cream cheese on a plate and pour salsa over it. Serve it with tortilla chips for a quick dish. Make some deli sandwiches using French or Italian bread. Fill them up with sliced cheese and cold cuts, wrap them in plastic, and put them in the fridge until you need them. Cut and serve as needed. If you want, you can even pop some in the oven for warming.

Use bread bowls to hold that chili or stew you made. Simply get some hard rolls and hollow them out. The insides can be saved to make stuffing on another day. Make a pile of hot dogs or backed potatoes and set out a toppings bar. Your guests can adorn their potatoes or dogs with their favorite condiments and toppings for a delicious treat.

If you want to stick with an appetizers only party, your choices are endless. From simple cheese and crackers to sausage rolls, you cannot go wrong. You can even find a recipe for beer puffs. Anything wrapped in bacon will be a hit. Wrap bacon around a cube of cheese, a shrimp, or a slice of sausage for an appetizer that will be gone as soon as you put it on the table. Do not worry so much about healthy snacks during the Super Bowl… it is one day that everyone wants to nosh on foods that make them feel good.

Do not forget the beverages. Many football fans appreciate having plenty of beer on hand. Keep it cold in an ice chest near the food table. Sodas are also a good choice for those who prefer not to drink alcohol. Stock several varieties so everyone can find something that they like to drink. Screaming and yelling as the game gets exciting can result in some mighty thirsty guests!

When you serve up Superbowl party food, your guests will be happy as long as there is plenty of great tasting dishes. Be sure to spread your food across the course of the afternoon. Running out of food before halftime would be a disaster! Timing when to set out different foods will make your guests very happy.

Your guests will appreciate the efforts you went to providing them with a delicious afternoon. They will remember your successful party for a long time and you will even get to watch the game most of the time.

Making simple Superbowl party recipes means that you can prepare all your refreshments well ahead of time and unwind with your guests when the game starts. There are lots of Superbowl recipes to choose from and meat refreshments, like chicken wings, ribs and hot dogs, are always incredibly popular. You will find hundreds of quick simple appetizers at our website to give you some more ideas.

The Hand of Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry is a free man. Many fans believe Thierry Henry deserved to be penalized for his hand ball that secured a spot for France in the World Cup and sent Ireland home ending their dreams of playing in South Africa.

I was rooting for Ireland in this match up. As unfair as it is, I believe the decision by FIFA is the right decision. I’ve had a few debates with some friends recently and there are some comparisons that we’ve made that really make it clear to us.

Let’s take Michael Jordan - If MJ traveled in a championship game and then went on to hit the game winner, would there ever be discussion of a penalty/fine for him? Absolutely not! That’s what the referees are for and their job is to make the call. Maybe MJ knew he was walking, but that’s not his fault.

FIFA came to the decision that this play ball Henry doesn’t deserve any punishment. They couldn’t find any legal wrong doings by Henry, which would allow FIFA to punish him. In my opinion, the refs should deal with this before Henry. I know if I didn’t do my job right, I may have to deal with some punishment!

It would have been a shame to see a superstar of Henry’s caliber on the sidelines during the World Cup this summer. The punishment he was facing could have kept him out of the World Cup for several games. This is the most elite soccer tournament in the World and it would not be the same without his presence.

I’ve played in many competitive soccer games over the years at the NCAA level. There were some heart-breaking calls against my team and for my team. The only person we could blame was the ref. It’s all a part of the game.

Ireland put in a request to FIFA to replay this match, but I knew this wouldn’t happen. They can’t turn the call over at this point, so that means that can’t find a reason to replay the game. Some people would like to see FIFA develop a review system, but that could really ruin the flow of a game. There are other options, like the addition of a ref on the end-lines which I think is a better solution.

All soccer players have done something against the rules and been successful doing it. It’s part of the game! Unfortunately for Ireland, Henry got away with a bit too much and it meant a spot in the Worlds greatest tournament!

This author is a huge soccer fan. He enjoys playing and watching soccer on his spare time. Check out his reviews on the latest soccer supplies and youth soccer shoes at his blog.

One Big Home For The Boys

Accommodation has become the name of the game as the new sports economics changes everything from the size of stadiums to the demographics of the crowd.

On March 10, 2008, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, joined by officials and coaches from Texas A&M University and the University of Arkansas (Jones’ alma mater), announced that the two schools would renew their rivalry with annual games at the stadium, beginning October 3, 2009. In addition, the Cotton Bowl will be moved to the stadium once it opens.

Originally estimated to cost $650 million, the stadium’s current construction cost was $1.15 billion, making it one of the most expensive sports venues ever built.

To paraphrase Le Corbusier’s maxim about modern houses as “machines for living,” modern stadiums have become machines for playing, part of a year-round, nonstop popular entertainment whirl in which a football game is just one option among many.

“Our main competition is the home media center,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in unveiling the stadium design in 2006. “We wanted to offer a real experience that you can’t have at home, but to see it with the technology that you do have at home.”

The upper concourses, on the other hand, provide plenty of maneuvering room along with panoramic views of the sprawling suburban landscape. Those on the lower levels seem more cramped, like obstacle courses, especially around the VIP lounges, where millionaires shake hands with billionaires and Joe Fan has to detour around them to get where he wants to go.

The stadium is easily the best of the current crop: more open and accessible than the Arizona Cardinals’ home in Phoenix, more rational than the hapless renovation of Soldier Field in Chicago and more immediately engaging than Trubey’s new stadium for the Indianapolis Colts, which has some of the dour industrial qualities of the oil company it’s named for.

Measuring 160 feet wide and 72 feet tall (11,520 sq. feet), the high-definition television screen at Cowboys Stadium is the world’s largest.

Neven Middlesby has been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys for over thirty years. He maintains a blog that is about the dallas cowboy stadium and will be at every game the Cowboys play. He will blog about each game at the newdallas cowboy stadium.

Say Goodbye to Giants Stadium

Beginning with the season opener against Washington, the Giants appear to be playing the same schedule that they did in the ‘08 - ‘09 season. Not only will they be playing all three of their NFC East rivals during weeks- through 15, but they will be hosting the games against the Eagles and the Panthers. These are just a few of the highlights Giants fans can look forward to this year, even if it is the same as it was last season, the details of the games will be different.

During the two weeks of preseason games and practices, the masses presumed that the Giants appeared to have built a strong defensive line. After an astonishing win against the Panthers, in their first preseason game, fans were excited about a strong season. The defensive line, in fact, is strong and ready for a good year.

Even the coaching staff backs the work and confidence they have in the Giants this year. Coach Tom Coughlin was asked who he thought was his top players this year, and most of the names he gave were on the defensive line, some of which were newcomer Sintim, Bruce Johnson, Tommie Hill, and Leger Dougable. Not that they are the only players who deserve a pat on the back, but they are definitely getting attention with their performance so far this year.

The ‘09 season will be nothing short of memorable for fans, staff, and team members. They started with the amazing win of their first preseason game, along with the return of a great receiver - David Tyree. Tyree suffered a severe knee injury shortly after Super Bowl XLII, and had to sit on the sidelines during the ‘08 season. This put the team in a bit of bind, forcing them to find new talent, which they did.

Tyree appears to be completely secure in his position on the team, as this current situation does not appear to be affecting him at all. He, as always, has promised his absolute best for, not only his fans, but his team too. This being said, Tyree is confident in his value to the Giants, and if they run out of room for him, he knows he will be valued on other teams.

Tyree is fully confident that he is healed - 100% from his injury - and that if the team is affected, it is not at the fault of him. He swears that his performance and stamina have not changed, and that he can be what they need him to be, and what he was prior to the ‘08 season. After watching the first preseason game of ‘09, most fans support this theory. The ‘09 season is an exciting season. Not only are the Giants welcoming David Tyree back to the team, but it is their 85th anniversary in the league along with their final year playing in their current stadium.

While the Giants have made a name for themselves with records and awards, this will be a memorable year for fans and team members. After this year they will be playing in the Meadowlands Stadium, which is where the Jets currently play - yes they will be sharing a stadium.

Fans, family, coaches, and team members are anxious about the historical markers of the ‘09 season for the Giants. Whether you frequent Giants games or not this is the year to make it to at least one. StubPass.com has all of the information you need to get your feet on stadium ground this year.

By Matt Ryan, sponsored by StubPass.com. StubPass sells New York Giants Tickets, sporting event tickets, concert event tickets, theater tickets, NFL Tickets and more to just about any event in the world.

The final football game of the season is coming up. You want to invite all your cronies over to enjoy the biggest game of the year with you. However, how will you keep them content and fed? The good news is, there are lots of ways to not only keep your guests happy, but you can enjoy the game, too!

Remember all those tailgate parties you went to at the stadium during football season? Why not make your Super Bowl party the same way? Set up lawn chairs for extra seating around the TV. Set food out buffet style on the table and let everyone help themselves as they wish. Get a good supply of good quality paper plates and plastic utensils… you will love it when it comes to cleaning up! Invoking the memories of tailgating last fall will help make your party a success.

Make sure you have plenty of drinks on hand. Water, soda and beer are easy to supply and easy to serve. Just put the cans and bottles in ice chests and set them near the food table. We are tailgating! Cheering on your favorite team is thirsty work, so keep the drinks flowing!

Now for the food. You must have food for a good Super Bowl party. Snack foods are the best. They are easy to make and easy to eat while you are yelling at the game. Think of things like chicken wings, meatballs, nachos, pizza… anything that tastes great and you can eat with your fingers. Other foods like chili are always welcome, too. Serve everything up on platters or in crock pots so everything is ready when your guests want to eat.

Another Super Bowl party tradition is the giant submarine sandwich. Pile it high with tomato, lettuce, and cold cuts. Surround it with lots of chips and dips to choose from. Other finger foods like sausage rolls and pigs in blankets are easy to make and they taste fabulous. Keep everything simple and fun so you can relax, too.

Not everyone is a big football fan, and it is inevitable that there will be a few who just do not care too much about watching. Let them congregate in a nice corner with lots of goodies to eat so they can visit and have a good time. If some guests are bringing children, set up a play room with toys they can enjoy during the game. Give them some snacks and they will have a great time.

When you are looking for Superbowl recipes, think about what everyone’s favorite snacks are. Watching the game brings out the cravings for cheesy, dripping goodies that are not that good for you. Make some the day before if you can so you can enjoy the game, too. Pace your snacks throughout the afternoon so nothing goes to waste.

You should be able to relax on Super Bowl Sunday, or at least join in the mayhem as your team makes the winning touchdown. Football fans do get intense at times. Either way, you should revel in feeding your guests delicious snacks and having a ball.

Making simple Superbowl party recipes means that you can prepare all your munchies well ahead of time and unwind with your guests when the game starts. There are lots of Superbowl recipes to choose from and meat munchies, like chicken wings, ribs and hot dogs, are always incredibly popular. You will find hundreds of quick simple appetizers at our website to give you some more ideas.
